Turf cleaning and maintenance

Artificial turf is low maintenance, not no maintenance — and Henderson adds one variable most climates do not: dust.

Dust is the local factor

Valley dust settles into turf fibres and dulls the colour. Turf that looks tired here is frequently just dirty, and a rinse restores it. Plan on hosing down more often than a homeowner in a wetter climate would — every couple of weeks in windy season is not excessive, and it takes minutes.

What you do

• Rinse regularly. Dust, pollen and granite fines. The single highest-value thing you can do here.
• Blow off debris. Blower or plastic leaf rake. Never metal, which cuts fibres.
• Cross-brush traffic paths with a stiff push broom, against the grain, once or twice a year.
• Address spills promptly. Most rinse off; grease needs mild detergent. Nothing abrasive, no solvents.

What we do

Power brooming

Mechanical brushing lifts and separates fibres far beyond hand brushing and redistributes infill. Every two to three years on a residential lawn, annually on pet or heavy-use areas.

Infill top-up

Infill migrates and settles. Topping up restores blade support and extends fibre life by reducing load on the blades. Inexpensive and routinely overlooked.

Deep clean and sanitise

For pet areas, playgrounds and commercial sites — a full clean with enzymatic treatment.

Weed treatment

Weeds do not grow through properly installed turf but can seed on top in accumulated debris. Easy to remove, easier to prevent.

Monsoon season

After a heavy storm, check that granite or debris has not washed onto the turf and that nothing is ponding. Ponding means a drainage problem worth addressing before it becomes a base problem.

Maintenance visits for a typical residential yard run $175 to $450 depending on size and scope. Annual plans available for pet areas and commercial sites.
